Golf Month is in October and it’s being supported by industry bodies such as the PGA of Australia, ALPG, GMA and all state and territory associations. It’s designed to improve awareness about golf activities in your local area with the ultimate hope of increasing participation and club membership throughout Australia.
To highlight Golf Month here are a few promotional ideas you can use as inspiration for your October calendar.
1. Hold an Open Day
An open day is a great way to get first-timers to come to your Club. You can advertise these to Juniors, Ladies and Men. Enlist the help of your Members to bring someone along and offer some giveaways, raffles, prizes, and perhaps a sausage sizzle or the like for everyone. You might also have a special membership offer for people who join up on that day.
Something like a 9-hole Ambrose competition would be ideal, or perhaps a putting competition. Anything that’s a little different to what’s normally on offer, that can move people along quickly. Remember, you’re showcasing your Club as a place to join as a Member so you need to make it as impressive as possible.
2. Launch a new event
Launching a new event in Golf Month is the best time of year to get the most exposure. You might be looking to launch a Corporate Competition, introduce a new major charity event to your calendar or perhaps a new junior event. Twilight golf or a special Sunday competition are all events you can launch in Golf Month.
3. Launch a new format
If you’ve been thinking about trialling a new format to see how it goes, Golf Month is a great time to do it. Some Clubs are trying FootGolf, others are using shorter time formats like PowerPlay where you use two flags on each hole.
4. Hold special clinics and lessons
Get your Pro involved by offering a special or new times for clinics in October. You might look at packaging bundles for new Members or introducing a specific specialist course for more avid players. Not everything about Golf Month should be geared towards the beginner. We need to cater for all golfers.
5. Offer specials or competitions
Use Golf Month as a way to promote your database growth by offering specials or competitions that capture email addresses that you can follow up with a messaging campaign. Get the buzz happening wherever you can to get as many people out on the course and playing the game we all know and love.
If you haven’t already got started on your Golf Month promotions, get in touch with your association representative to make the most of your promotional opportunities. Golf Month have a budget of advertising to promote your events for you, so don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.
